TRANSFORMATION

The project is my exploring the language of transformation from a three-
dimensional image to a two-dimensional one and back by using modern
media.
The foundation is the first known classic sculpture that captures the
movement momentum – discus thrower (circa 450 B.C.): movement
is an essential part of the present and the sculpture artifact is an unchanged
part of history.
By examining the 3D sculpture (replica dated back to the aforementioned
year) I take a photo with a flash, turning the sculpture into a 2D object and
then transform it again into volume by using just the photo.
The overexposed areas become the working ones. I restore volume through
light in a 3D program and then use a 3D printer.
I break down the flash into 7 colors of light which in and of itself is an allegory
and return to the colored statues of the ancient world. I hereby create
a transformation of the historic sculpture in the present via modern media.
Or a replica of the replica’s replica.
